YES Prep Southside Secondary Dress Code & Uniform Expectations
Will uniforms be required for students?
YES Prep Public Schools believe in the power of community and school pride while also deeply valuing a student’s right to express their individuality without the fear of unnecessary discipline, body shaming, or the confines of gender norms. Students have the right to be treated equitably and dress code enforcement at YES Prep Public Schools will not create disparities, reinforce or increase the marginalization of any group, nor will it be unfairly enforced more strictly against a student because of racial identity, ethnicity, gender expression, sexual orientation, cultural or religious identity, household income, body size or type, or body maturity.
Students are required to wear a YES Prep-branded uniform top five days a week, the last day of the week allows for a variation (i.e. – college t-shirt day). Students will be allowed to wear a uniform top from any previous school year (that fits uniform policy).
Additional Guidance:

All YES Prep students should own at least 1 campus polo.

Uniforms from the 2025-2026 school year and previous years are acceptable if they meet the school’s uniform guidelines.

The YES Prep polos and spirit shirts will be available for purchase online. All information pertaining to student uniforms, the links to campus webstores, and distribution guidance can be found on the YES Prep Student Dress Code website.
YES Prep Public Schools will only allow YES Prep branded outerwear. The outermost layer visible on a student must have YES Prep branding. Students can wear outerwear uniform items purchased from this year or new ones that will be for sale over the summer.

ID Badge |
Students must always wear Student ID badges while on campus. ID badges must always be worn on a lanyard and visible. |

Bottoms
|
Students may choose between pants, skirts, or shorts of the following:
Students should wear bottoms that allow them to comfortably participate in PE. Students may not wear pajama pants or bottoms with holes. Shorts and skirts should be no shorter than mid-thigh. Bottoms may not have holes/tears below the knee/with leggings underneath. Students are not required to wear belts. |

Shoes |
Tennis shoes are recommended so students can safely participate in activities at recess and in PE. For safety purposes, all shoes must meet the following criteria:

YES Prep Shirts |
Students are required to wear a YES Prep Polo or YES Prep Spirit Shirt 5 days of the week to strengthen school pride, unify the community, and to promote a college-going culture. All YES Prep students should own at least 1 campus polo. Students are not required to tuck in shirts. |

Outerwear |
Students are required to wear YES Prep-branded outerwear to continue to strengthen school pride, unify the community, and promote a college-going culture. Outerwear must be purchased from YES Prep or the campus Athletic Department. Students may choose from the following:

Accessories/Styling
|
Students may have visible piercings and tattoos if messaging and images are school-appropriate. Accessory items that are spiked (bracelets, belts, collars) are not permitted due to safety reasons. Students may wear a variety of hairstyles and colors. Head shaving designs are permitted as long as images are school-appropriate. Hats and sunglasses are not permitted for safety purposes. Religious head coverings are permitted. |

Uniform Daily Expectations
Campus must fill this table out with specific daily expectations.
Students must follow the specific daily expectations for uniforms at their campus as outlined below. Please note that there may be some exceptions to these dress code expectations to accommodate cultural celebrations and traditions. Exceptions to uniform expectations will be communicated to students and families in advance.

YES Prep’s updated dress code policy
YES Prep’s dress code policy is centered around values of equity and school pride. The YES Prep dress code allows for building individuality and allows for community building through campus-specific attire. The dress code is a daily expectation and should meet district and campus guidelines. Like all YES Prep policies, if a student’s dress or accessory choice poses a concern for student physical or emotional safety, a campus administrator has the discretion to disallow the dress item.
